The Story of Artisan | Milola Brands

Before being established as an award-winning furniture manufacturer, the Artisan brand – known then as woodworking shop Ćostović - was born in the heart of Bosnia. Taking their love of wood and carpentry and transforming it into a small furniture brand, their beautiful minimalist designs and skilled crafts allowed them to gain recognition further afield, taking their pieces to Europe and beyond. 

Each Artisan piece is designed to tell a story, to complete a part of a puzzle and to make a statement in the home; a concept which has kept the business growing, evolving and thriving since its inception. Their unrivalled understanding of wood and how to use, sculpt and shape it into something elegant and timeless has allowed them to succeed over years of changing trends, styles and tastes.

Sustainability, technology, touch and craft – the four key elements that make up the Artisan ideology and run through each and every aspect of their brand, from the forests to the processing plants. 

Sustainability  

Led by the notion that ‘wood and life are inextricably connected’, every piece of furniture created, designed, crafted and shipped by Artisan begins in the trees. Every piece of solid wood used by the artisans and designers is renewably sourced, and treated with natural materials, oils, and waxes, and all processing plants are personally overseen and controlled to ensure the highest standards of sustainable production. 

From the initial drying of the wood to the eventual construction of a piece, each step of the production line is designed to be as sustainable and natural as possible, building furniture pieces that reflect the environment, rather than harm it. 

Technology 

In 2009 Artisan established the ARTECO Wood Technology Center – a state-of-the-art hub of wood processing and manufacturing, created to transform Bosnia-Herzegovina's wood industry. Designed to help provide essential expertise and infrastructure in woodwork machinery, design, prototyping, drying and preparation, the new technologies explored and developed here make a hugely positive contribution to how wood products are manufactured today.  

 Their investment in this technology highlighted their passion for woodworking and supported their idea that technology can be used for good in the world of manufacturing and production.  

Design  

Almost every inch of the  Artisan production process is equipped to offer their designers unlimited creativity, opportunity and inspiration when it comes to creating new and beautiful furniture pieces. Each designer is hand-selected, skilled, creative and excellent at their craft, creating quality designs and ideas that consistently reflect the high standards of the Artisan name.

They encourage their artisans to use their hands as much as possible, to understand the strength of the wood, the shape of it and the potential it has to become a statement piece in someone’s home.

The Artisan collections have also been featured in a number of incredible commercial and residential projects, to high acclaim, from a Los Angeles Starbucks stocking their NEVA High Lounge Chairs to an interior designer in Antwerp integrating the BLOOP Coffee Tables into their showroom.
